Advantage Bead Filters by Sacramento Koi |
Everyone agrees that a koi pond filter needs to provide not only exceptionally clear water so that you can enjoy watching your koi, but it also needs to provide healthy water for the koi to live in. A number of filters today can deliver those needs but none are as easy to maintain as the Advantage Bead filters. For that reason we are the only filter manufacturer in the industry to offer a One year unconditional satisfaction guarantee.
"If, for any reason, within the first year of owning either the Advantage Bead Filter or the Advantage Glass Polishing Filter, you feel you are not completely satisfied we will buy the filter back and pay for any return shipping. No questions asked."
Steve Walker (owner Sacramento Koi)
Look at all the Advantages:
- State of the art "Bead Filtration" which provides both an extremely efficient mechanical and biological filter all in one.
- A pressurized system which allows the filter to be located out of sight from the pond if desired.
- The lowest head pressure of any bead filter available today due to the unique inner head design (pat. pend). This means you can use the new energy efficient type pumps.
- All models come standard with a large 2 hp. blower which helps create the most efficient and easiest system to backwash available.
- Easy access to bead media (30 sec.). No plumbing to disconnect or remove; just unscrew top cap.
- The "Medication Cycle" not only allows you to bypass the beads when medicating the pond, but also to keep the beads thoroughly oxygenated during this critical period.
- A large 2 inch sight glass is installed so you can easily tell when the filter is clean during the backwash cycle.
- New - The only bead filter available witha clear topclosure lid that nowallows you to see into the filter durring backwashing to make sure the bead media isthoroughly mixing.
- A "Guarantee" that no one can beat! If you are not completely satisfied with any Advantage filterduring the first year of operation for any reason, we will buy back the filter and paythe return shipping charges.

These clear lids allow you to see into the filter during backwash to confirm that the filter is backwashing properly. They are made of high strengthisoplast and are slightly yellow in color to reduce algae from forming on them. These lids have been tested for use only on the Advantage Bead filters. Notfor sale for use on any other brand filter. These lids come standard on all new Advantage beadfilters. |
The biological capacity of a koi pond filter is a measure of how readily it can convert ammonia and nitrite (which are toxic to koi) into nitrate (which is relatively non toxic to koi). This is accomplished by the nitrosomonas bacteria which breaks down the ammonia and turns it into nitrite. Then the nitrobacter bacteria break down the nitrite and turns it into nitrate which is consumed by any plants or algae growing in the pond. The key to making this process work well is to create a good environment for the bacteria to grow in. The Advantage bead filterprovides an excellent environment for the bacteria by creating a huge surface for the bacteria to grow on. The surface area of a single cubic foot of beads is impressive. Example: The surface area of one bead is approximately 1/6 of a square inch. There are approximately 325 beads in one cubic inch or 561,600 beads in one cubic foot Therefore, one cubic foot of beads would have a surface area of 93,600 square inches or 650 square feet. The Advantage 5 bead filter, our smallest filter, contains 3 cubic feet of beads which would have a biological surface area of approximately 1,950 square feet for bacteria to grow on. That is an area 30' by 65' or approximately the surface area of a tennis court. (The Advantage 15 bead filter, with 6 cubic feet of beads, would be twice as large.)
